Social Media Erupts as Ritaa and Purple Ethie Clash in Explosive Online Beef Over Airport Photo

Malawian social media has been set ablaze following a heated online exchange between musician Ritaa and popular content creator Purple Ethie, in what many are calling one of the most talked-about celebrity spats in Malawi.

The drama began when Purple Ethie shared photos at the airport as she prepared to fly to Blantyre to celebrate her birthday. One of the pictures featured an Air Malawi aircraft in the background — a post that quickly caught attention online.

Moments later, Ritaa took to her Facebook page with a cryptic but loaded post written “So Malawians, has it now become a habit to take pictures with the Air Malawi plane?”

Netizens wasted no time connecting the dots, concluding that the post was a direct jab at Purple Ethie. The speculation spread fast, and before long, Ethie fired back with a sharp response.

In a post that escalated the feud, Purple Ethie hit below the belt, writing:
“If people can take pictures when going for surgery to enlarge their buttocks, who am I not to take photos at the airport?”

The comment was widely interpreted as a direct attack on Ritaa, who had previously been seen in a video to have undergone cosmetic surgery.

But the clash didn’t end there. Ritaa responded by posting screenshots of private inbox messages allegedly sent by Purple Ethie, alongside a caption that turned the tables:
“You can say many things, but you should have left the surgery issue out. You also wanted it but I didn’t respond maybe that’s why you’re hurt.”

The screenshots appeared to show Purple Ethie asking Ritaa for contacts and assistance on where to undergo BBL surgery, claiming she too was interested at the time.

The revelation shifted public sentiment almost instantly. Many online users declared Ritaa the “winner” of the clash, likening the exchange to a football match where evidence sealed the victory  despite Ritaa being accused of starting the cold war.

In an attempt to cool things down, Purple Ethie later posted that she had abandoned the idea of BBL surgery after hearing claims that the procedure can result in unpleasant smells  a statement that itself sparked fresh debate and memes.

As of now, both Ritaa and Purple Ethie have gone quiet on the issue, with fans describing the situation as an unofficial ceasefire.

Whether the peace will last remains to be seen  but one thing is certain: Malawian social media was thoroughly entertained.
