Three Arrested Over K11 Million Hardware Shop Break-In in Kawale

Police in Kawale have arrested three men in connection with a break-in at a Modern Hardware shop owned by Salahuddian Akbar, a Malawian of Pakistani origin.
The incident is reported to have occurred during the night of December 17 to 18, when unknown criminals broke into the shop and stole assorted items, including K11 million in cash.
The suspects have been identified as Jassam Kadammanja, aged 43, Edward Alick, 29, and Innocent Makamo, 21.
Police say two of the suspects were security guards hired to protect the shop, while Edward Alick was working as a shop attendant.
Following investigations, detectives arrested the trio between December 26 and 28 in Ntcheu, Kasungu and Lilongwe.
So far, police have recovered a stolen desktop computer and K975,000 in cash, as well as items believed to have been bought using the proceeds of the crime, including a new motorcycle, a mattress and a coffee table.
The suspects have been charged with breaking offences and are expected to appear in court soon, as police continue with investigations.
