Police in Balaka have launched an investigation into the disappearance of 12-year-old Natheera Sanena, who went missing on January 1, 2026, after being sent to withdraw money from an agent near Balaka District Hospital.

Balaka Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha confirmed that the case is being treated as a missing person matter.

Natheera’s father, Hastings Sanena, told MBC Digital that his daughter was sent to collect money from an agent at the chicken market outside the hospital but never returned home.

He explained that the family last saw Natheera when she left their house to go to the hospital staff lines.

On the day of her disappearance, she was wearing a khaki skirt, a blue shirt, and yellow sandals. Her mobile phone, which she was carrying, became unreachable after the transaction.

Police are asking anyone with information to report to the nearest station or contact the family at 0991324263 or 0882722208.

Investigations are ongoing to determine Natheera’s whereabouts.
