President Peter Mutharika has reshuffled his Cabinet, increasing the number of ministers from 24 to 28 and officially abolishing the Ministry of State.

In the changes announced in Lilongwe with immediate effect, Alfred Gangata has been moved from his position as Minister of State to Minister of Natural Resources. The Ministry of State, which Gangata previously headed, has been disbanded.

Gangata will be deputized in his new role by Chipiliro Mpinganjira, who is a new entrant into the Cabinet.

In other changes, Jappie Mhango has been transferred from the Ministry of Lands to the Ministry of Transport. Feston Kaupa, who previously served as Minister of Transport and Public Works, has been appointed Minister of Homeland Security, with Mhango taking over his former portfolio.

Meanwhile, Joseph Mwanamvekha remains Minister of Finance, while George Chaponda continues to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Cabinet reshuffle was communicated through a statement signed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi.
