A motorcyclist and a pedestrian have died in a road accident at Kazonga Village along the Kasungu–Lilongwe M1 Road in Dowa District.
Police said the accident occurred when a Toyota Hilux, driven by Kumbukani Munthali and travelling from Kasungu towards Mponela Trading Centre, hit a motorcyclist, Rodgers Katengeza, who was crossing the road.
Mponela Police Publicist, Macpatson Msadala, said the motorcyclist was thrown off balance and subsequently struck a pedestrian, Chimwemwe James, who was walking in the same direction.
Msadala said both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to Madisi Mission Hospital, where they died while receiving treatment.
Katengeza, aged 33, hailed from Khosi Village, while James, also aged 33, came from Khombe Village, both under Senior Chief Chakhaza in Dowa District.
