Police in Karonga have arrested three brothers in connection with the murder of a 43-year-old man, Denis Mughogho, which occurred at Juma Village in the district.

Karonga Police Public Relations Officer, Margret Msiska, confirmed the arrest and identified the suspects as Edward Mughogho (25), Black Mughogho (21) and Watson Mughogho (16), all from Mwenesapa Village, Paramount Chief Kyungu.

Msiska said the incident is alleged to have occurred during the night of January 1 to January 2, 2026, following a dispute earlier in the evening at Juma Primary School.

“Preliminary investigations have established that on January 1, the deceased was coming from a drinking joint when he met the suspects at Juma Primary School and accused one of them of having an affair with his wife, from whom he was separated,” said Msiska.

She explained that the accusation angered the suspects, leading to a physical fight, which was later stopped by villagers who were attending a choir festival at the school.

Msiska added that later that night, the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s house, where they assaulted him with a blunt object before dumping him beside the road within the village.

“The matter was reported to Karonga Police Station, and detectives, together with medical personnel, rushed to the scene where a postmortem was conducted. Results revealed that the cause of death was excessive loss of blood due to multiple head injuries,” she said.

The trio have since been arrested and are expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Msiska has advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities, including threats to life, to their nearest police formation for timely intervention.
