Goshen City has announced the termination of its partnership with the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA), citing a strategic realignment following an internal review of its collaborations.
In a statement, Goshen City management said the decision was made to allow both organisations to pursue their respective goals independently, stressing that the move should not be interpreted as a negative reflection on FAMA or its contribution to the growth of Malawi’s film industry.
The organisation, which is owned by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malawi’s creative and cultural sectors and said it remains open to future partnerships that align with its values and governance standards.
Goshen City also confirmed that its earlier pledge to support a film production project still stands, explaining that although the partnership with FAMA has ended, the project will continue through other appropriate channels.
Meanwhile, FAMA has expressed appreciation to Goshen City and other corporate partners for supporting the Malawi Film Awards and Gala held late last year. In a statement, FAMA said the sponsorship played a significant role in the success of the event, particularly in promoting the local film industry.
However, it has been noted that at the time of signing the partnership agreement, Goshen City reportedly pledged sponsorship worth K100 million. During the awards gala, the organisation is said to have contributed K28 million, despite being the main sponsor. Documents circulating on social media also suggest that Lab20 Innovation, listed as a platinum sponsor, contributed K32 million, reportedly more than Goshen City.
The exact reasons behind the termination of the partnership remain unclear. Speculation has emerged on social media, with some users pointing fingers at FAMA president Dorothy Kingston, alleging that her social media conduct may have contributed to the fallout. However, neither Goshen City nor FAMA has issued an official response addressing these claims.
