Popular American rapper Fetty Wap has been released from federal prison after serving nearly three years of a six-year sentence for drug trafficking.
The rapper, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, was officially released on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He confirmed his freedom to his millions of followers on social media with a simple, one-word post on his Instagram Story: “HOME.”
Fetty Wap, best known for his 2015 global hit Trap Queen, was arrested in October 2021. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances, specifically cocaine. In May 2023, a federal judge sentenced him to six years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
Prosecutors had accused the 34-year-old artist of being a “kilogram-level redistributor” for a trafficking ring that moved narcotics from the West Coast to New Jersey and Long Island.
While his original sentence was six years, his release date was moved up significantly. Following his release from a low-security facility in Minnesota, Fetty Wap has been transferred to home confinement in Philadelphia to serve the remainder of his term.
In a statement shared shortly after his release, the rapper expressed deep gratitude to his supporters.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support—it truly means everything to me,” he said. “Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundatio1n… I’m committed to moving forward with purpose.”
