Blantyre Senior Resident Magistrate Lawrence Mchilima is expected to rule on whether his court will continue hearing or commit to the High Court the robbery and murder case of businessman Omar Mbeta.

Mbeta, 50, was shot dead in June last year while conducting business at his shop at Chatha Trading Centre in Chileka.

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and murder. The suspects are Blessings Chadzamakono, Robert Assam, Douglas Sandram, Samson Kasambwe, and Genesis Mastala.

Police say the suspects allegedly stole an unspecified amount of cash and other valuables during the attack.

The five are currently on remand at Chichiri Prison as they await the court’s determination.
