Senior Resident Magistrate Lawrence Mchilima of the Blantyre Magistrate’s Court has adjourned to January 26 a murder case involving five suspects accused of killing businessman Omar Mbeta.

The accused, Blessings Chadzamakono, Robert Assam, Douglas Sandram, Samson Kasambwe and Genesis Mastala, are alleged to have been involved in the brutal murder of Mbeta at Chatha Township in Blantyre.

During proceedings on Tuesday morning, the prosecution presented two witnesses: Mbeta’s widow, Sheila Phiri, and Charity Mnenula, who testified that she purchased a mobile phone believed to have belonged to the deceased.

The state informed the court that it is prepared to call three additional witnesses when the hearing resumes.
