President Mutharika Appoints Rev. Alexander Kambiri as Deputy Advisor on Religious Affairs

President Peter Mutharika has appointed Reverend Alexander Kambiri as the Deputy Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs with immediate effect.
The appointment was confirmed on January 10, 2026, in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Justin Saidi. According to the directive, Reverend Kambiri’s duties in the high office commence today.
Reverend Kambiri currently serves as the Minister-in-Charge of Chitipi CCAP under the Nkhoma Synod. He has earned a reputation in the religious community for his principled preaching and his firm stance on justice, often noted for his fearless and impartial delivery of the gospel.
In his new role, Reverend Kambiri will serve as the second-in-command in the religious affairs office, working alongside Reverend Timothy Khoviwa, who remains the Chief Advisor on Religious Affairs.
The appointment is seen as a move by the President to strengthen his administration’s engagement with the faith community through seasoned and respected spiritual leaders.
