A watchman is in Police custody in Mzuzu on allegations of vandalising cables at Lusangazi TNM Tower.

Sergeant Angella Harawa Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station says the incident occurred during the night of January 9–10, 2025, at Lusangazi TNM Tower.

Harawa says the suspect is identified as Tchindi Chirwa, 36, of Ponda Village, Traditional Authority Wasambo, Karonga District.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that detectives on general observations around Mchengautuwa Trading Centers came across Chirwa holding a cable, which he was offering for sale.

Upon being interviewed, Chirwa voluntarily admitted that he works as a watchman at Lusangazi TNM Tower and that he vandalised the cables at the plant tower,” Harawa said.

Chirwa will appear in court soon to answer charges of vandalism.
