Three Toddlers Drown in Well in Mulanje

Three children have drowned in a well at Kalale Village, under Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje District.

The deceased have been identified as Brian Sikelemu and Christopher Sikelemu, both aged one year, and two-year-old Hasuma Makowa.

Mulanje Police Deputy Publicist, Leah Chagomerana, said the incident occurred while the children’s parents were away working in their gardens, leaving the toddlers unattended at home.

Chagomerana explained that the children crawled near a nearby well, fell in, and drowned before their parents returned.

Authorities have confirmed the deaths, attributing them to suffocation caused by drowning.

Investigation and community awareness efforts are ongoing to prevent similar accidents in the area.
