Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila has accused the police of carrying out politically motivated arrests of party officials and called for the practice to stop.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe, Kabwila said the arrests were meant to divert attention from cases involving several ministers from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
She said the arrests would instead strengthen MCP’s support base and help the party return to power in 2030.
Kabwila added that if MCP forms the next government, it will not engage in politically motivated arrests but will focus on national development.
Her remarks came following the arrest of Ezekiel Ching’oma, former Minister of Homeland Security and MCP official, yesterday.
