The Archdiocese of Blantyre has announced the death of Rev. Fr. Bernard Tiyesi, parish priest of Mzedi Parish.
Confirming the development, the Archdiocese’s Vicar-General, Rev. Fr. George Buleya, said Fr. Tiyesi died this morning at Blantyre Adventist Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
Buleya said the body has since been transferred to the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) mortuary.
He added that burial arrangements are still being finalised, but it is likely that the funeral will take place on Saturday, subject to confirmation by Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa.
Fr. Tiyesi was one of the senior priests in the archdiocese and served as parish priest of Mzedi Parish.
He also worked as a chaplain for pilgrimages within the Catholic Church.
Previously, he served as national chaplain of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and was parish priest at Gambula and Ntenje parishes.
