Blantyre-based hip-hop artist King Kstar has donated assorted school items to two top-performing learners at Manyowe Primary School, using proceeds from sales of his recently released street EP titled Street Novel.
The artist, whose real name is Kelvin Betha and hails from Manase Township, had pledged before releasing the project that he would sell it and channel the proceeds into making a positive impact in schools, targeting both primary and secondary learners.
Speaking after the donation, King Kstar said the initiative officially kicked off at Manyowe Primary School.
“By the grace of God, we started at Manyowe Primary School where we supported two learners, Davie and Clara. Both were given school uniforms, exercise books, and ballpoint pens,” said Kstar.
He also expressed gratitude to individuals and school authorities who supported the initiative.
“We are thankful to Annie for the great job she did designing the school uniforms. We also thank the Head Teacher, Mr. P. Naliwa, the Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs. F. Manja, and the entire staff for granting us permission and supporting our wish,” he added.
King Kstar has since promised to extend the initiative to other schools, with CI Primary School confirmed as the next stop.
Despite being an upcoming artist, King Kstar is already one of the most recognized musicians in Manase Township. His EP Street Novel, which features six tracks, is currently being sold at K2,000. The project will also be available for free download from January 31 on Malawi-Music.com.
The artist has therefore appealed to well-wishers and fans to support the movement by purchasing the EP or contributing any amount toward the cause.
