Police in Dowa have arrested three men suspected of stealing a King Lion motorcycle valued at K4.5 million.
Dowa Police Station spokesperson Sub Inspector Alice Sitima identified the suspects as Makiyoni Banda (41), of Kosamu Village in Area Y28; Chilikumwendo Village in Dedza District; and Stephano Mtembesi (23), of Kazembe Village, Chikowi in Zomba District.
Sitima said the arrests followed a complaint lodged on December 8 last year by Zana Samuel (28), a Burundian national who works as a motorcycle taxi operator.
According to police, Samuel was picking up the suspects to drop them at a different location when they allegedly assaulted him and stole the motorcycle.
The stolen motorcycle was later recovered, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The three are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to the theft.
