Zomba Police have arrested eight people for illegal activities, including petrol sales and cannabis cultivation.

According to police spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano, three suspects, Hasting Juma (25), Dines Kazunguza (41), and Bening Chokongo (26), were caught selling petrol without a permit at Thundu and 3 Miles Market, violating Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) regulations.

In a separate operation, five others were arrested for possessing and cultivating cannabis sativa illegally.

All the suspects are residents of Zomba District.

The arrests followed targeted police operations aimed at curbing illegal trade and unlicensed activities.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine if more people are involved. The police warned the public that such offenses will not be tolerated.
