Fertilizer Fumble: Five Arrested in Ntchisi Over AIP/FISP Scam

Police in Ntchisi have arrested five individuals at Malomo for allegedly attempting to steal fertilizer intended for the Fertilizer Subsidy Input Programme (FISP/AIP).

According to Ntchisi Police spokesperson, Salomy Zgambo, the arrests followed a successful “tip-off” and subsequent investigation. The suspects, who include fertilizer sales agents and vendors, were caught in possession of a large stack of national identity cards belonging to local farmers a classic sign of subsidy fraud.

The Suspects are identfied as Dalitso Chimchere, 32, Friday Philimon, 37, Henry Kanyamula, 54, Constance Kasunda, 28 and Wales Nthala, 34

This latest crackdown comes just three weeks after five other fertilizer sellers at the same Malomo market were apprehended for similar corrupt practices. Police have warned that they will continue to monitor markets to ensure that the affordable fertilizer reaches the intended low-income farmers
