Police in Thyolo District are searching for suspects who murdered a security guard at Malamulo College of Health Sciences, where an ESCOM transformer was also vandalised.

South East Region Police Public Relations Officer Edward Kabango said the deceased, Jailos Solomon, 34, was on duty with fellow guards Chikondi Samson and Yolamu Chilapani, guarding a dam within the college campus at the time of the attack.

All three guards sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Malamulo Hospital for treatment. Solomon later died while receiving medical care, while the other two guards remain admitted at the same facility.

A postmortem examination revealed that Solomon died from excessive blood loss due to severe head injuries.

The deceased hailed from Mkusa Village, Traditional Authority Khwethemule, in Thyolo District.

Police have since appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
