The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has fined Flavatos Restaurant K522,000, ASK Wholesalers about K900,000, and Universal Industries at least K900,000 for breaching food safety and quality standards.

During an inspection in Lilongwe, MBS found poor meat storage, products without expiry dates or manufacturer details, and unauthorised beef patty processing at Flavatos Restaurant.

At ASK Wholesalers, inspectors discovered 87 bags of expired maize flour displayed on shelves, which have since been confiscated for disposal.

MBS Senior Certification Officer Masozi Mwenifumbo warned that such violations pose serious health risks to consumers and urged businesses to comply with existing regulations.
