MAN ARRESTED IN DOWA FOR POSSESSING MEDICAL DRUGS WITHOUT DOCUMENTS

Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested a 29-year-old man for being found in possession of medical drugs without valid documentation.

The suspect has been identified as Satifano Master, a resident of Kantchere Village in the area of Senior Chief Kayembe in Dowa District.

The incident occurred on January 26, 2026, at around 08:00 hours, after detectives from Nambuma Police Unit received a tip-off from a well-wisher that the suspect was illegally selling medical drugs around Kantchentche Trading Centre.

Following the information, police conducted a follow-up and arrested Master at his house in Kantchere Village.

A search of his house led to the recovery of assorted medical drugs packed in two laptop bags. The drugs included 201 LA tablets, 565 contraceptive tablets, 242 Omeprazole capsules, 83 Indocin capsules, 1,062 Paracetamol tablets, 237 Amoxicillin capsules, 386 Novida SP tablets, 461 Buffen tablets, 210 Magnesium tablets, 306 Bactrim tablets, 693 Salbutamol tablets, 661 Metronidazole tablets, 711 Aminophylline tablets, 120 post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) tablets, 228 Aspirin tablets, 50 additional Amoxicillin tablets, 44 Piliton tablets, 37 Gentamicin bottles, 104 syringes (including four used), and 25 boxes of malaria test kits, among others.

When questioned about the possession of the drugs, Master failed to produce any valid documents authorizing him to possess or sell them, leading to his arrest.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to the illegal possession of medical drugs.
