Police in Salima have destroyed about five tonnes of cannabis sativa at Senga Bay in a continued crackdown on illegal drugs in the district.

Salima Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Rebecca Ndiwate said the cannabis was burned in line with provisions of the Police Act and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

She explained that the law allows the disposal of seized drugs after six months if no suspects are arrested or claims made.

Ndiwate added that the cannabis was intercepted during routine police operations, including roadblocks and stop-and-search exercises along major roads.

Salima Police have since assured residents that enforcement operations against drug trafficking and substance abuse will continue.
