Child dead, several injured in Bembeke M1 horror crash

One person has died while several others have sustained life-threatening injuries following a road accident at Bembeke along the M1 road in Dedza District.

The deceased has been identified as a child, the accident involved a Toyota Sienta which was reportedly carrying passengers and goods, traveling towards the direction of Blantyre.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash. Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Dedza District Hospital, where they are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

Dedza Police have confirmed the development but have asked for more time to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and to assess the value of the property damaged.

“We are currently on the ground to establish what exactly led to this tragedy. More details will be released once the full report is ready,” a police source stated.

The Bembeke stretch of the M1 road is well-known as a blackspot, frequently claiming lives due to its steep slopes and sharp curves.
