Immigration Arrests Ten Foreign Nationals in Northern Region Operation

The Immigration Department has arrested ten foreign nationals during a special operation aimed at tracking down illegal immigrants in the country. The operation was carried out in the Northern Region between 3 and 7 February this year.

According to the department, the operation covered areas including Livingstonia, Rula, Chimunyanga, Bwengu and Mzuzu City. Of the ten suspects arrested, one is an Egyptian national, one Turkish, one Indian, one Congolese, two Burundians and four Rwandans.

Two of the suspects were found guilty by the court and ordered to pay a fine of K25,000 for illegal entry. They are currently being held at Mzuzu Prison.

The remaining suspects were found guilty of violating other laws, and the court ordered that they be transferred to Dzaleka refugee Camp.
