The Dowa Magistrates Court has acquitted two men, Innocent Phiri and Fanizo Libiamu, who were charged with housebreaking and theft.

The pair was accused of breaking into a house in April last year and stealing assorted items, including a plasma television set, a mobile phone, and kitchen utensils. The property belonged to a police officer stationed in the district.

In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Yohane Nkhata said the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence linking the accused to the alleged offence.

Consequently, the court found the two not guilty and ordered their immediate release.
