The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mzuzu has fined two foreign nationals K25,000 each for separate immigration offences, with a six-month prison sentence as an alternative penalty.

National Immigration Public Relations Officer Pasqually Zulu confirmed the convictions and identified the individuals as Abdul Rashid, an Indian national, and Sabiha Sarikan, a Turkish national.

According to Zulu, Rashid was charged with violating the conditions of his immigration permit, while Sarikan faced charges of overstaying in the country without valid documentation.

The court found both individuals guilty and convicted them accordingly. They have since paid the fines.
