Mzimba Chief Tied to Tree Over Funeral Absence, Three Nabbed

Three people have been arrested in Mzimba on suspicion of assaulting Chief Yazunguluka Nkhata for failing to attend his nephew’s funeral.

The 65-year-old chief reportedly went to attend to business despite receiving news of his nephew’s funeral.

The suspects allegedly seized the chief, tied him to a grave during the burial ceremony, and ordered him to pay a fine of K100,000.

In a statement, Mzuzu Police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi said that after receiving a tip-off, Ekwendeni Police launched an investigation and arrested three people believed to have been behind the attack.

Those arrested have been identified as Mbakaya Gondwe, 28, Eric Simkonda, 27, and Daseko Phiri, 42.

They are expected to appear before court soon.
