FINCA Malawi rescues 6 spellers with MK7.8 million

One of the leading micro-finance companies in the country, FINCA Malawi has donated MK7,825, 400 towards the Malawi National Spelling Bee’s team trip to Zimbabwe.
The funds will help 6 spellers both from Secondary and Primary schools in the country to travel to Zimbabwe to take part in the 2026 African Spelling Bee Competition set for 19 and 20 March 2026.
Speaking after the donation FINCA Malawi Marketing Manager Takondwa Chirwa said the company recognizes a vital role that Malawi National Spelling Bee is playing in uplifting the lives of learners in the country hence the donation.
“Malawi National Spelling Bee is playing a very critical role in promoting education, building confidence and promoting academic excellence especially in the young leaders. Because of this we thought of being part of this. When we received a call from them we did not hesitate but to support them,” said Chirwa.
On his part Malawi National Spelling Bee Director of Operations and Special Events Andrew Francisco Chikho hailed Finca Malawi for the timely donation.
“As Malawi National Spelling Bee we are very grateful with this donation. The funds received today will help our six spellers travel to Zimbabwe for the regional competition which we failed attend last year.
“The funds will carter for transport, food and accommodation,” said Chikho.
Spellers from 27 Countries are expected to take part in this year’s African Spelling Bee Competition.
