Lilongwe Police Station on Friday impounded 60 motorcycles for violating road traffic rules and regulations.
Lilongwe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Khumbo Sanyiwa said most of the motorcycles were seized after riders were found operating without crash helmets and carrying more than one pillion passenger, practices that contravene road safety requirements.
Sanyiwa said the enforcement exercise follows a rise in injuries linked to motorcycle-related accidents, despite ongoing civic education on safe road use.
Police have since advised motorcycle operators, commonly known as kabanza, and their passengers to strictly follow road traffic rules to ensure their safety and that of the public
