Man arrested at KIA Over Alleged illegal Foreign Currency Possession

Police at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe have arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly illegally possessing and attempting to externalise foreign currency without supporting documents.
Airport Police spokesperson Sapulain Chitonde Lee identified the suspect as George Augustus Chinangwa.
Lee said the arrest followed a routine search of passengers boarding a Malawian Airlines flight to Johannesburg on Thursday, during which Chinangwa was allegedly found with ZAR10,000 without the required documentation from a bank or foreign exchange bureau.
He said the foreign currency has been confiscated pending further investigations, and the suspect will face two charges of illegal possession and attempted externalisation of foreign exchange once formalities are completed.
