Police in Kasungu have arrested two men, Steven Nkhoma (45) and Chimwemwe Manda (25), for allegedly possessing 15.5 kilograms of ivory valued at K4 million.

The district’s Assistant Public Relations Officer, Chifundo Nedi, said the suspects were arrested on the 13th of this month after well-wishers tipped off police that one of them was keeping ivory at Chulu.

“Following the tip-off, police conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Nkhoma. During questioning, he revealed that part of the ivory was being kept by Manda,” said Nedi.

Nkhoma comes from Chimphiri Village, while Manda hails from Nkulumimba Village under Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu District.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
