Malawi Police Service officers in Lilongwe have arrested Brighton Ngalonde, popularly known as Bizzo, in connection with the theft of K104 million from a Chinese national, Ning Cheng.
Police say the incident occurred on 16 June 2025 after Ngalonde allegedly told the victim he was selling approximately US$35,000.
The two arranged to meet at the Bingu International Convention Centre to complete the transaction.
According to investigators, when Ning arrived in his Toyota Vanguard, he was asked to enter Ngalonde’s BMW to verify the foreign currency before finalising the deal.
Upon entering the vehicle, the victim reportedly found two other suspects inside, and one allegedly threatened him with a firearm while warning him not to raise an alarm.
The suspects are said to have demanded the keys to his vehicle, stolen K104 million from the Vanguard, and later abandoned him near Cherub Private Schools in Area 47.
Ngalonde, 35, is expected to appear in court to answer charges of armed robbery, kidnapping or unlawful detention, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
