Court Sentences 28-Year-Old to Four Years for Electricity Cable Vandalism in Blantyre

The Midima First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Limbe has sentenced 28-year-old Erick Chitseko to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour for vandalising Escom electricity installation equipment.
The court heard from State Prosecutor Sergeant Mathews Jumbe that on November 14, 2025, Escom security officials received a report that Chitseko had been apprehended while digging up an underground Escom pipe containing electrical cables.
Following the incident, the matter was reported to Limbe Police Station, leading to Chitseko’s arrest.
Appearing before the court, Chitseko pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.
