MDF Soldier Detained in Lilongwe After Impregnating 15-Year-Old

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has taken a hardline stance against one of its own after a 37-year-old soldier, Diof Simaone, was implicated in a disturbing case of statutory rape.
Investigations reveal that Simaone allegedly lured the 15-year-old victim into a sexual relationship in 2025. The matter only came to light after the girl gave birth to a child, who is currently two weeks old. Reports indicate the victim’s mother delayed reporting the crime, hoping the soldier would provide financial support a promise that never materialized.
The MDF has confirmed that Simaone is currently being held at the barracks for “internal discipline” and will be handed over to the Malawi Police Service shortly to face formal charges of defilement.
