The Malawi Police Service has shot dead two suspected robbers in Dedza following an undercover operation aimed at curbing attacks on truck drivers.
According to reports, police launched the operation after a rise in robberies targeting heavy-goods vehicles. Seven officers disguised themselves as passengers by hiding in the back of a van loaded with maize.
When the vehicle reached Linthipe, a group of robbers armed with knives and sticks boarded the van and began the robbery, unaware that police were inside. Officers quickly responded, and during the confrontation, two suspects were shot.
The injured suspects were taken to Dedza District Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their death
