Six NEEF Loan Collectors Attacked During Debt Recovery Mission in Nkhotakota

Six loan recovery officers from the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) are receiving treatment after being assaulted during a debt collection exercise in Mpamantha area under Senior Chief Kalimanjira in Nkhotakota.
The officials reportedly travelled to the area on Thursday morning to recover loan repayments from members of the Tigwirane Manja group, which obtained K24 million from the fund in 2023.
According to a member of the group, the confrontation occurred after the officers arrived without prior notice, unlike previous visits.
The incident comes shortly after NEEF issued a 60-day ultimatum to loan defaulters across Malawi to settle their outstanding balances.
