A 20-year-old domestic worker based in Lusaka Zambia has been apprehended and handed over to police after allegedly stealing her employer’s one-year-seven-month-old child along with two refrigerators, mobile phones, and a laptop.
The employer said he was alerted by his landlord, who had received information that the maid was attempting to sell the stolen items. According to the employer, the suspect reportedly told prospective buyers that the items were being offered at a giveaway price to raise transport money, claiming she had received news of her father’s death in Nakonde.
Further details indicate that the domestic worker had booked a room at a lodge in Chazanga, where she allegedly planned to spend the night after selling the stolen goods.
She was later apprehended and handed over to police at Shifwankula Police Station, where investigations have been opened. Authorities have not yet released information regarding potential charges, but the case is under active investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about domestic worker vetting and security measures in Lusaka households.
