Two Indian Nationals Arrested in Limbe Over Stolen ESCOM Copper and Aluminium

Police in Limbe, Blantyre, have arrested two Indian nationals after they were allegedly found in possession of stolen copper and aluminium materials belonging to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).
According to Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Sam Kadyole, the suspects have been identified as Kalwinder Sinds (50) and Sahid Kahlon (24).
Kadyole said that on 18 February 2026, police received a tip-off that the two suspects had loaded a container with copper and aluminium wires which they intended to export. Acting on the information, detectives moved in and arrested the pair.
Police seized 195 kilograms of copper wires and 364 kilograms of aluminium materials, which ESCOM officials have since identified as their property.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to possession of stolen property.
