Former presidential running mate Vitumbiko Mumba and Malawi Congress Party Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila have pleaded not guilty to charges of fabricating and publishing false information at Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Senior Resident Magistrate Brecious Kondowe noted gaps in the state’s disclosures but ruled that it was premature to dismiss the case.
The state indicated that it is preparing a list of witnesses, which is expected to be submitted by Wednesday.
The court has adjourned the matter to 27 April 2026 for further proceedings.
Mumba and Kabwila continue to deny any wrongdoing as the case progresses through the legal system.
