Man Arrested in Mchinji with 50kg of Marijuana

Douglas Banda of Mwandimba Village under Inkosi Khonsolo Gwaza Jere in Mzimba District is in police custody after being found with at least 50 kilograms (seven buckets) of marijuana at Kapiri in Mchinji District.

Mchinji Police spokesperson, Limbani Mpinganjira, said Banda was arrested near Kapiri Market following a tip-off that he was selling large quantities of tobacco without a permit.

Upon searching him, police reportedly discovered that he was actually in possession of 50 kilograms of marijuana.

Mpinganjira said investigations have revealed that Banda allegedly cycles from Mzimba to conduct illegal business, supplying marijuana in Mzimba, Kasungu, and Mchinji districts under the pretext of selling fish.

Police say the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
