Chiradzulu Police Hunt Councilor Over Alleged Assault On His Wife

Police in Chiradzulu District are searching for Mombezi Ward Councilor Ayami Chaponda on suspicion of assaulting his wife following a domestic dispute.

District Police Officer Henry Kangulu said the case follows a complaint lodged by the councilor’s wife, Annie Kumbemba.

Police say the couple had been experiencing ongoing family disagreements. The situation allegedly escalated on February 26 when the councilor reportedly pushed his wife against a wall during an argument, causing her to faint.

Authorities have since opened an assault case against the councilor, who is currently being sought by police.

Meanwhile, Annie Kumbemba has been discharged from Chiradzulu District Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
