Police in Chitipa have arrested a 26-year-old man, Stanford Mughogho, in connection with the murder of 54-year-old herbalist Maxwell Mbeke Mughogho.
Chitipa Police Station Assistant Public Relations Officer Mathews Mfune said the suspect was arrested on Saturday, February 28, 2026, during a police operation at his hideout in Katutula. The operation was carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department following months of investigations.
Mfune said the incident occurred on October 16, 2025, at Makanga’ng’a Village under Senior Chief Nthalire. On that day, the deceased left home for Wenya Trading Centre but failed to return, prompting his wife and community members to organize a search.
His body was later found in a swamp along the Wenya–Bale Road with severe head injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp object.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer a murder charge, while police continue investigations to determine whether others were involved.
