Police in Chikwawa District have arrested two Mozambican nationals, Alubano Mbauje and Nijho Navaya, on suspicion of possessing marijuana.
According to Dickson Matemba, spokesperson for Chikwawa Police, Mbauje, 22, and Navaya, 21, were arrested on Sunday at the Nkumaniza border gate, where officers are stationed.
Police say they received a tip-off from well-wishers that the two suspects were carrying marijuana while attempting to cross into Mozambique. Upon searching them, officers reportedly found no fewer than 12 jumbo packets of the drug in their possession.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
