Information reaching this publication indicates that there is a heavy police presence at the Shoprite minibus terminal in Lilongwe following a scuffle between two groups of minibus touts fighting over control of the area.

One of the touts, Sana Chitseko, said  another group arrived armed with machetes in an attempt to chase them away.

The move angered a rival group, sparking violence that left a woman injured. Chitseko described the situation as disappointing, accusing some individuals of encroaching on others’ business interests and bringing operations to a standstill.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, and no minibuses or pickup trucks are currently operating at the terminal.
