The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has increased the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from K3,740 to K4,475 per kilogram with immediate effect.

In a statement released following a meeting of its Energy Pricing Committee held on February 25, 2026, MERA said the upward adjustment in LPG prices has been attributed to an increase in the landed cost of the product.

However, the regulator has maintained the pump prices of petrol and diesel for February 2026.

According to MERA, since the last pump price adjustment on January 20, 2026, the average Free on Board (FOB) prices of petrol and diesel decreased by 2.01 percent and 1.28 percent respectively compared to the December 2025 averages used to determine the current pump prices.

The February 2026 In-Bond Landed Costs (IBLCs) show a 0.92 percent decrease for petrol and a 0.63 percent decrease for diesel. Under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), both products did not qualify for a price revision as the changes were within the ±5 percent trigger band.

As a result, pump prices remain unchanged as follows:

  • Petrol: K4,965 per litre (0.00% change)

  • Diesel: K4,945 per litre (0.00% change)

MERA has reminded all retail operators that by law, they are required to sell petrol and diesel at prices not exceeding the regulated maximum pump prices.

The Authority further noted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is exerting upward pressure on global petroleum prices, though the increases so far remain insignificant. MERA says it will continue monitoring the situation.

The statement was signed by Board Chairperson Lucas Kondowe on March 4, 2026.
