A growing music dispute in Malawi’s entertainment industry has taken a legal turn after upcoming artist Chygo Adz accused Kineo Madness of copying elements from his song “Yaya.”
Lawyers representing Chygo Adz, whose real name is Chigonjetso Bauleni, have issued a formal legal demand to Madness Entertainment, the record label managing Kineo Madness.
In a letter dated 6 March 2026, KK Attorneys claim that Kineo Madness’ recently released track “Kwa Neba” bears “substantial similarities” to Chygo Adz’s song “Yaya,” which has been available on streaming platforms such as Spotify since 2024.
The lawyers allege the similarities amount to copyright infringement and have demanded that Madness Entertainment remove the song from all streaming platforms within 24 hours.
They have also demanded that the label issue a public apology acknowledging the alleged infringement and pay damages amounting to MWK 100 million.
According to the letter signed by Counsel Phillip Junior Mpesi, failure to comply with the demands could lead to legal proceedings starting Monday, 9 March 2026.
However, Madness Entertainment has strongly rejected the allegations. In a statement released earlier, the label said the claims against their artist are “baseless and false,” maintaining that Kineo Madness is an original artist and that “Kwa Neba” is an authentic work.
The management also warned that they would take legal action against the accuser to protect the reputation of their artist and the brand.
The dispute has sparked intense debate among music fans online, especially after “Kwa Neba” was reportedly removed from YouTube, with some listeners comparing the two songs to judge the claims for themselves.
As the deadline set by the lawyers approaches, the case could potentially escalate into a major copyright battle within Malawi’s music industry.
For now, both sides remain firm in their positions, with Chygo Adz pushing for compensation and Madness Entertainment defending their artist.
