Police Hunt Suspects Who Assaulted And Raped Woman In Dowa

Police in Nkhotakota are searching for suspects who allegedly assaulted and raped a 21-year-old woman while she was travelling from Dowa to Nkhotakota.
Nkhotakota Police Station spokesperson Chisomo Chuma said the incident occurred on March 6 when the woman left Dowa Boma with her three-year-old child to visit her parents at Mchirawapulura Village under Traditional Authority Chezi
According to Chuma, the woman boarded a Toyota Probox with four other passengers. However, the driver allegedly failed to stop where she intended to get off and instead sped off. Two passengers reportedly forced her to drink a substance from a glass bottle while threatening to kill her, after which she became weak and lost consciousness.
She was found the following morning along a road leading to Liwala Graveyard in Nkhotakota and was taken to Nkhotakota District Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed she had been raped.
Police have said investigations are underway.
