Two security guards, Godfrey Ngalande, 34, and Dalitso Billy, 47, are in the custody of Ntcheu Police on suspicion of stealing 37 bags of cheap fertiliser worth K5 million from a fertiliser shop in Kambilonjo.

Police spokesperson for the district, Jacob Khembo, said the two were arrested after Biliwiri Police spotted some people leaving a warehouse with fertiliser at night.

He said the officers arrested Ngalande, who was found with bags of fertiliser, and Billy, at whose house more bags of fertiliser belonging to the Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) were discovered.

SFFRFM sales manager in Kambilonjo, Allan Menyamenya, confirmed that the fertiliser bags had been stolen from the shop.

The suspects will appear before court soon.
