The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an immigration officer, Lawrent Kagona, on allegations that he solicited and received a bribe of K300,000 to fast-track the processing of a passport, which normally costs K50,000.
Kagona was arrested yesterday following a complaint that some officers at the immigration office in Lilongwe were soliciting and receiving bribes from passport applicants.
According to ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Jacqueline Ngongonda, Kagona allegedly received K150,000 in cash and another K150,000 through a mobile money transfer.
The ACB said Kagona will be taken in for questioning before being formally charged in court.
